I love building with LEGO. I also have sets and minifigures I’ve collected, plus the ones my now-grown children left behind. Finding somewhere for all of it is a separate activity.
The organization problem
I’ve tried plastic bins, sorting by color, and a giant towel on the floor. Our Aussie, Sadie, contributes fur. The bricks collect it. I spend the evening bent over looking for pieces, and my joints remind me I’m not an actual kid.
What I’m using
Sorting by brick type and size, with labeled stackable bins, makes pieces easier for me to find. Color comes later. The system is still being adjusted.
I like a small thermal label maker because I can carry it when a project moves from the living room to the office to the kitchen.
Getting the builds off the table
I have built-in shelving in my home office for finished builds. I also look at cabinets that keep dust off and let me see what’s inside.
Below are the cabinets, drawers, containers, and bags linked in the original post. I’ve kept one list. Prices and availability may have changed since publication.
For small pieces and minifigures with accessories, I like clear bags because I can see what’s in them without adding another label.
